Donna J. Haraway nasceu em 1944, em Denver, nos Estados Unidos. Graduou-se em zoologia e filosofia na Colorado College e, em 1972, concluiu doutorado em biologia na Universidade Yale. Foi professora de história da ciência e estudos de mulheres na Universidade do Havaí, entre 1971 e 1974, e na Universidade Johns Hopkins, entre 1974 e 1980. Em 1980, ingressou na Universidade da Califórnia em Santa Cruz, onde atualmente é professora emérita e atua nos departamentos de História da Consciência, Estudos Feministas, Antropologia e Estudos Ambientais. Recebeu, em 2000, o John Desmond Bernal Prize, a mais prestigiosa distinção concedida pela Society for Social Studies of Science, em reconhecimento a suas contribuições à história e à filosofia da ciência.
